Description

Profile
There’s oft much talk about sleeping peacefully under the starry night sky, but ever wondered what it’s like to snooze under the midnight sun instead? Well as this is the world’s northernmost site (in the world’s northernmost town), between early … spring and autumn the sun never sets... The friendly site team will happily help sort excursions and find good hiking trails from the site; it’s worth noting that all visitors to Svalbard are required by law to carry a rifle when leaving any settlement to go out into the wilderness, for more than 3,000 polar bears inhabit the isle’s icy lands. Local tour operators around Svalbard organise all sorts of adventurous excursions, from boat trips and dog sledding adventures to snowmobiling and quad bike tours; also generously, visitors can borrow bikes at no charge from the tourist information office. With views over a bird-filled fjord towards mountains in the middle distance, this spectacular site’s guests come here for a peaceful and highly scenic stay among Arctic nature, as it's oft visited by the wild likes of curious reindeer, leucistic barnacle geese and heaps of other feathered migratory critters. In the summer here, temperatures average between two and and 15 degrees centigrade, so be sure to pack up your long johns and other thermal garb – aside from that fear not, for a camping stove shall not be required: stays are made most cosy, as at your disposal is a service complex with guest amenities like a heated bathroom and a fully equipped communal kitchen.
